Changing How Scouting and Girlguiding Groups Work Together in Knebworth

 

We would like to make you aware that we are changing the way Scouting and Girlguiding Groups work together in Knebworth and reassure you that this will not affect the delivery of our youth programmes; our 3 Scouting sections and 4 Girlguiding Units will continue to operate as usual.

 

Since 2005, when we modified our charity, the 1st Knebworth (Earl of Lytton’s Own) Scout Group, to operate as the Knebworth Scout and Guide Group, we have been one of very few joint Scout and Guide Groups in the country.  It has become increasingly challenging to ensure we comply with the latest guidance from Scouts UK, Girlguiding UK and the Charity Commission.  We have agreed that we will revert to operating the charity as the 1st Knebworth (Earl of Lytton’s Own) Scout Group with its own Trustee Board.  

 

The 1^st Knebworth (Earl of Lytton’s Own) Scout Group owns the Hut premises and the new Scout Trustee Board will have overall responsibility for the Hut as well as the governance of the Scout Group, which comprises Beavers, Cubs and Scouts sections, in line with Scouts UK Policy, Organisation and Rules (POR).  

 

The four Girlguiding Units are independent charities (excepted from registration) in their own right, and will continue to be governed under the policies and procedures of Girlguiding UK, reporting to Girlguiding Knebworth District and Girlguiding Hertfordshire. 

 

The Scouting sections and Girlguiding Units will continue to meet at the Hut, as they do now. 

 

Scouting and Girlguiding leaders will continue to work together, as members of a new Knebworth Scout & Guide Property Management and Fundraising Committee, to look after the day-to-day running of the Hut and to organise joint community and fundraising events. 

 

We are looking for volunteers for the:

• 1^st Knebworth (Earl of Lytton’s Own) Scout Trustee Board 
• Knebworth Scout and Guide Property Management and Fundraising Committee.
